I suspect one way in which this spread of germs
in schools could be curbed . . . Would be to
install ultra-violet lights in every room and
hallway. Every night, after everybody is out
of the building, turn them all on and let them
sterilize the surfaces.

Re: "...IMHO, the best way to keep from catching the bug is to stay out of places where there is a lot of it. Nursing homes come to mind. "
If only it was so simple.

There is an experiment in which one school kid has an invisible compound put on his hands. By the end of the day, a black light shows the compound to be everywhere - all over his face, his desk, his friends and his friends' desks. Even the teacher, who had tried to avoid it, had it on her face.

The virus lives on surfaces for up to nine days. What you need to do is to avoid every place with kids or where kids have been in the last few days. It's not so easy.
