Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

Re: “She actually has a double major - electrical engineering and math. ”

Congratulations! Tell us more about your daughter, please! She sounds like a terrific young lady.

What school is she attending?

My son hasn't yet declared his major, but it looks like he too will be a double major. We just aren't sure in what, yet since UVA doesn't require majors to be declared until the end of the second year. The four in contention are math, linguistics, cognitive science and computer science. As of this semester (his 3rd), he's a TA in computer science, so that's the front runner.

I did my best to talk him into engineering. Outside of medicine (which is very difficult for a white male to get into these days) I think engineering is the best career he could choose, but I wasn't successful. It's his life, after all, and I'm not going to force him into something he's not interested in.

I'm happy you were successful.
