Micro,
Coal leaves that toxin laden ash behind. But, given
a choice between very expensive electricity and having
affordable air conditioning I'll take the coal.

Hydro-Electric? While I love the stuff there are just
so many places where it can be used. (And not enough
of them.)

My jury is still out on windmills. I keep thinking it
took a lot of federal tax subsidies to get them building them. But, if an area has some hydropower and
the windmills it might be cost effective to use water
when the wind isn't blowing . . .

Solar panels make the most watts during peak demand hours.
The panels on rooftops might be able to take some of the
bite out of peak electricity rates. However, where one
might 'plant' enough solar panels for grid level power
one can NOT grow food stuffs or trees to suck some of that
nasty carbon back out of the air.

As for those spent fuel rods . . . .
'We' REALLY need to get Yucca Mountain opened and all
those spent fuel rods moved within it. (And after all
those spent fuel rods are inside Yucca Mountain then
and only then do we let congress appropriate some moneys
to build a nuclear fuel rod reprocessing plant - Inside Yucca Mountain.)

OKAY GUYS.

NOBODY is going to like this but I am OLD SCHOOL and I am all in favor of bringing BACK the COAL industry full steam ahead.... WHY?

WE HAVE LOTS OF IT. JUST LIKE OIL. RIGHT here in the USA.

WE have WATER and lots of it. Hydro power. Created by water propelled turbines that generate electric.

I am NOT a FAN of either SOLAR or WINDMILLS. IF someone could actually show me the numbers for the electric generated by ONE windmill as to effectivity, I could change my opinion.

WHY do we always rush headlong into changing things that work?? Things that are not harmful, and things we have been blessed as a nation to have in such great abundance?

I am not a big fan of fission either but am aware of it. Very dangerous. Good results when it works right...

However as pointed out, trying to keep spent rods which are KILLING MACHINES seems to be an ongoing problem.

Solar panels are among the least effective in generating electric. Worst investment anyone could make for their home because they produce so little electric per one panel...

ANyway, that is how one older engineer sees it.
I am no expert. I only know that I always have used in manufacturing machinery and methods that were correct and efficient for what we were making, and that was not many times the latest lazers cutting machines, water jets, or other nonsense.
So that is where my perspective comes from....

I guess I am a throwback to practicality and effective use of what's available to accomplish the most...
