Well,
Frequently when the 'character' sent from the keyboard
does not match the font set in the computer it will
put a little square box on the screen . . . still no
idea what the character really was.

Or, the key might not be sending a character at all -
in which case one might be able to type in the password
without the 'missing characters' in it and get it to
take.

But, I still like the idea of plugging in the bad
keyboard, entering the password and getting into
the computer. Then changing the password to something
simple the bad keyboard can type. Shut down, put a
good keyboard on and log in using the simplified
password then change it back to the more complicated
desired one. (Especially as MIcro1 said he could get
in with the bad keyboard.)

Why not just hook up the bad keyboard, open Word, type the password so you can see what the keyboard actually generated, then hook up the good keyboard and type in the password you saw in Word?
