Another factor affecting my opinions is the fact that the bluest areas are populated by very intelligent people earning beaucoup bucks turning out high value products.

...true that, but they have a majority of those living in public housing as well.

Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!

Wiz, a couple anecdotal experiences prepped me to re-evaluate my opinion of SOME of the douchenozzles subscribing to the moral disease often discussed here.

Couple years ago a daughter dug around on Ancestry.com and found several cousins -- truly great people -- I'd never known existed. One is married to a semi-retired orthopod who probably has as high a cognitive capacity as I've ever encountered. They live in their own redwood grove, seem to get all their news from the NYT and NPR. Capacity aside, they don't know squat about perhaps the most important factors affecting our lives. They've had zero exposure to serious analysis and are susceptible to evil nonsense.

Have to tread carefully here, but her bro and I are trying to gently introduce them to Thomas Sowell(*). We'll see.

Another factor affecting my opinions is the fact that the bluest areas are populated by very intelligent people earning beaucoup bucks turning out high value products. They are not stupid. Instead, I'd surmise they assume their experience with good management of single enterprises can translate across the unknowable myriad of extended orders that comprise a modern economy. There be dragons!

Anyway, these and a couple similar made me amenable to the arguments Haidt presents -- in some circumstances. The favorite whipping posts here, vile and irrational pests, lie outside my argument.

As to How is everything going for you?, I'm paying the price for indiscretions committed over too many miles.

Snot fair!

(*)Sowell turned Reagan down for a cabinet post, thought he'd serve best helping legislators understand the consequences of their actions. Within the last year or two he wondered if his efforts had been a waste.

I've just finished his WEALTH POVERTY AND POLTICS. It's criminal that a familiarity with his works aren't a prerequisite to voting.
