electronics like that are sensitive and as you discovered it is often best to plug that thing into the 12V outlet after the car is started and not before. Much easier on them . Sorry for your loss though.

And my damn GPS blewup today. It was plugged in and I started the car and ZAP, it was gone. Never seen that before.
