Today I pulled the alternator from the box and read the test report from Auto Zone. See the portion I circled.

Sometimes I feel like a real dope!

I'll take it to the local Auto Zone store and have them test it. My suspicion, though, is that it's a bad alternator. It definitely is not the same as the alternator shown on the box.

If it's bad, maybe it will still be worth something as a "core." How much, though, I don't know.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

One of the projects I'm interested in is to generate electricity from a stream. It's not as difficult as you might think since a water wheel can be made easily from a bicycle wheel. If I use that to drive an automobile alternator, I'm making electricity.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a yard sale that had two alternators in their boxes for $25 each. I asked if they'd take $20 for the one I'd selected and they agreed.

I haven't priced an alternator in years, but I assume it's a good price. The only question is... does it work? The sale was at a really nice house, and the other things being sold were quality, so I'm assuming the answer is yes. As you can see, the alternator is very clean. Does it look used? Nemo would probably know.

I'll continue this story in a second post after showing you the photo.
