While on vacation this past week I happened to buy a
Roanoke Virginia newspaper. In it I found this article.
Zim.

Cahoon: How to divorce poverty

http://www.roanoke.com/opinion/commentary/cahoon-how-to-divorce-poverty/article_8311ef21-cd07-57ea-9223-11b3fa1bdc97.html

By John Cahoon

Cahoon is a civil engineer and former U.S. Army aviator. He lives in Roanoke.

Ginger Dakin’s plaintive description of imaginary welfare leech Marry Freeloader Poverty’s plight (“It’s not easy to divorce poverty,” June 27 commentary), while worthy of sympathy, is a result of many bad life decisions by Marry along the way that Dakin now thinks society is responsible for underwriting.

All the programs that Dakin and other progressives have enacted since 1964 only serve to fracture the family, promote a lack of responsibility and bar access to better education with a resulting lack of marketable skills. The continued existence of Marry Freeloaders and her problems after all these years is absolute verification that these programs do not, and cannot be made to work.

We can only help Marry Freeloader so much but then she must help herself and her children by behavior modification, imposing tight financial constraints, getting them off the streets and assigning chores, making them help her in preparing inexpensive nutritious meals from cheaper raw ingredients, turning off the TV and all electrical video games, daily teaching her children to look at her poverty and showing them the way out.
