This was NSA software that was used for the attack.
Microsoft released a patch in MARCH of this year that prevented ALL updated machines from being infected. Fist time I've been thankful for the coercive updates of MicroSnot. Those machnes infected had obviously TURNED OFF updates from Microsoft - dumpkopfs. Microsoft has declined to reveal from whom they received notification of the security hole and MICROSOFT FAILED TO PUBLICIZE THAT THE HOLE EXISTED and a PATCH WAS THEN AVAILABLE. I smell HUGE lawsuits acomin' aginst Ole Billie Gates boy.
Anyways A KID shut down the virus worldwide by simply registering a domain - which he did after supposedly examining the code and seeing the 'shutdown' domain embedded in the trojan. I suspect that what REALLY happened is that the NSA supplied the shutdown info to a willing coverup participant - but, either way, a HUGE HAT TIP to the kid for shutting it down. KUDOS.
So far - it looks like the massive extortion attempt only netted about $20,000 in reported ransoms paid.
