Thanks nacl. We'll put a slightly newer Camry onto the list. Hopefully we can find something for sale by a proverbial little old lady who only used it for church on Sundays.

There's one advantage to living here. There are a huge number of people who get relocated by their employers. Soemtimes they're looking to unload their houses and cars on short notice. I've got a few months to try to find one.

I think I mentioned once before that I bought my Truck, a 2008 Silverado, for $20,000. It only had 7,000 miles on it and was a year old. The seller was a police officer who, thanks to his job, could buy vehicles at a great discount. He wasn't driving the truck due to having been given a car by his department.

that was the kind of deal that doesn't come along every day. When it was new, it was a $34,000 truck! But it was also at a time when gas was over $4.00/gallon and truck prices were in the basement. Dealers were selling NEW F150s for about that same price.

I'll keep my eyes open. Maybe I'll find one of these cars with slightly more miles or a few more years on it and still make my original $5,000 goal.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

We had a 2002 Camry with about 125k (well maintained) miles. But when my daughter went to college we didn't need it so we gave it to my wife's nephew. In the next year he put on about 40k miles and complained that he had to have the brakes replaced. I don't think he has done any other maintenance on it.

Bottom line, we got good service out of a 2002 Camry and I haven't heard of any reduced reliability since then.

Good luck!
