Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare disease and they don't usually live past age 25, which also limits the market.

An estimated 1 in every 7,250 males aged 5 – 24 years had a diagnosis of Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophy. source: CDC

People 5-24 in US ~ 100 million / 7250 ~~ 14,000 est people in US with Duchene MD.

Bottom Line: There is no market for a generic drug.

Used to be . . .
When a drug ran past its patent, the generics
would start manufacturing.

The cost of 'name brand' would then come down or
folk would buy nothing but the generic.

That system served the U.S. very well for decades . . .

So, why aren't there generic drug makers for these
outrageously priced drugs?
