I'm having interesting discussions on Facebook. One of my son's friends says that for the first time in his life, he is truly scared. He didn't explain himself at the time, but after a lengthy discussion (which I ended after one of his high school friends called me a weirdo for being a parent who is trying to provoke a teenager. My attitude is that if you're old enough to vote, you're old enough to have an adult conversation.) it emerged that he's afraid he won't have a job after he finishes with college. He's halfway through his Freshman year of college . . . and is a music major.

I could have told him a year ago that with that major, he won't find work. In fact, I tried. But what I said at the time had no impact and only now is he finally "scared."

When he graduates, he'll have a boatload of debt and no job, but at least he can console himself with the knowledge that it's all Donald Trump's fault.

My son is one of his high school's most talented young musicians, so I know the music kids at his school and have a good understanding of their mentality. About half intend to be college music majors. That's a shame because they're mostly very intelligent kids, but utterly lacking in practicality and guidance.

I made a point of knocking the "Music Major" idea out of my son's head early:

Joey: So, Dad, if I major in math or science, how much of my college will you pay?

Me: All of it.

Joey: And if I major in music, how much will you pay?

Me: Uh... virtually nothing. Maybe $5,000. I don't want you to major in something that won't yield a good job at the end. College these days is extremely expensive. If it doesn't pay for itself by ensuring you'll have a good career later, it's not worth doing.

Him: Oh. Okay.

Me: Hey, you're a bright kid. If you want to major in music, I have no doubt you can get yourself a scholarship somewhere. But don't ask me to finance it. I regard your college education as an investment, and being a music major today is NOT a smart career move.

So that was that. He gets it. He's made it clear that, at this point, he doesn't even want to be a music major.

Then there's THIS discussion I had today:

Stacy D This is the beginning with the ban. This the beginning of a hitler dictatorship. Read the similarities between them it's ASTONISHING

Decomposed Utter nonsense. Comparing Trump to Hitler is a slap in the face to both Donald Trump (which was your intent, I'm sure) and to the tens of millions who died at the hands of Hitler.

Stacy D Umm wrong his characteristics are exactly like hitler read about that similarities it's astonishing and disgusting and scary and my great grandparents were holocaust survivors so don't tell me I'm slapping my people in the face! But like Donald says he'd like to punch someone in the face? DITTO

Decomposed FYI, Reuters just posted that 49% of Americans agree with the President on the ban, while 41% disagree. So you may as well condemn most of your countrymen. Shopping for a new country yet?

Stacy D LOL WRONG

Exclusive: Trump's travel ban polarizes America - Reuters/Ipsos…
REUTERS.COM|BY CHRIS KAHN

Stacy D I believe the paper your talking about says 1/3 33% not 49% were they your alternative facts? or do you choose to disagree with facts

Stacy D But we know, you only believe in the news you choose to, not the factual majority news

Decomposed LOL yourself.
(I then posted the Reuters poll image that showed 49% of Americans supporting the President’s Immigration ban while only 41% oppose it.)

Stacy D I see where you read that now, ok 51% are against

Decomposed No. 41 percent are against and 10 percent have no opinion.

Stacy D Well that's as good as 51% they are not agreeing, just like the popular vote some didn't vote but they include them in not voting

Decomposed So, do you often mock people when you are wrong?

Decomposed I see. In your world, if 2% see things your way and 49% have no opinion, you claim to have the majority with you. Interesting.

Stacy D No I just agreed that our facts are interpreted differently and I have no problem being wrong in like trumpanzees! Hitler and trump are a direct correlation of authority type mindset.. have to go to work have a great day 😀

Decomposed No opinion means no opinion. Of those that DO have an opinion, 49 out of 90 (54 percent) agree with the President.

Stacy D In your world you pick and choose the media you want to believe in my world I investigate and what you are reading is alternative facts just like him winning the election legitimately

Decomposed I don't "believe" any of the media. Those who do are children.

Stacy D Well let's just say that the majority of Americans and the world despises him and the protesting and BIGLY crowds prove that

Decomposed What I posted was a Reuters poll result. If that's alternative media, then I guess the NY Times is one of China's propaganda tools.

Decomposed The majority of the people in the majority of the states just elected him. And I don't care what the rest of the world thinks. I don't want the United States to be like the rest of the world. It is better than that.

Decomposed BTW, you aren't the only one who had relatives killed by Hitler. I resent like hell anyone trivializing them by comparing our President to the man who, along with his allies, killed 60 million.

Stacy D He's trying to move along with bannon who hates Jews and become a dictator by ruining our political system and I RESENT THAT

Stacy D The majority of Americans did not vote for him FACT! Not alternative fact 😂 😂 😂

Decomposed The majority of Americans did not vote at all. Fact. What you've just posted is irrelevant. Donald Trump won the majority of the votes from the majority of states and won the election. That is what his campaign set out to do, not to win the majority of the votes but lose the election. If the rules were different, he would have campaigned differently and still would have won.
