The company owns the mineral rights, and owned the rights since LONG before the current surface rights owners bought 'their property'. Surface rights owners can not steal the rights that others own. Their own failure to understand this when they bought the property is their problem. You can NOT, under law,take away the property of others, and that includes denying access to the legally owned property of others.
It makes for good (actually tragically bad) theater, but right is right - and those land owners are WRONG.
