It's that time of year, and Seniors - including my son - have already finished submitting their college applications. Now the waiting begins.
Joey applied to 14 schools - which is a lot. (Seven is a lot.) Twelve of his picks were premier colleges and universities, and two were what he called "Safeties" - colleges where he considered acceptance to be probable. Joey's Safeties were two Virginia schools - Bridgewater and Virginia Commonwealth, both of which have sent him letters of acceptance already. Applying to Bridgewater was something he did almost as a joke - the application had no fee so he filled it out on a lark. He said, though, that he probably wouldn't go to college at all if Bridgewater is the only one that wants him. Apparently the school's website has misspelled words in the opening paragraph of its home page! Says a lot, doesn't it?
The other schools won't make their decisions until March, so we're now playing the waiting game.
But Virginia Commonwealth just upped the ante. Tonight, we received the letter below stating that Joey had received their Provost scholarship . . . which means free tuition plus about $1,000 per year for his full four years. That's pretty cool! We'd have to pay his room and board but it's otherwise free college!
The waiting continues. VCU is *not* the premier college he's hoping for and I have hopes that one or two other acceptances will be coming his way. Fingers are crossed.
