Nope, don't have a problem with what you are suggesting at all.

I have long advocated for tort reform that would shut down the corrupt, ambulance-chasing opportunism of malpractice and personal injury lawyers.

I agree ... there should be no free anything. Healthcare services are NOT a right ... they are services you pay for, like any other service, period. If people want to freely band together to support charitable organizations that provide healthcare services to those who cannot otherwise afford it, great - I'm all for it!

A "wide range of qualities" ... yes, that is exactly what I meant by "various coverage options to better meet policyholder needs." The very notion of "one size coverage" is patently ridiculous. Many people desire minimal "catastrophic" coverage, while others are willing to pay for more "comprehensive" coverage. Some people need maternity coverage, while others are well past that need. And, even though FFFTers are in desperate need of psychological coverage, the rest of us are just fine without it.

Why did the government f*ck it up? Easy ... everything they touch goes to sh!t. That's why The Constitution puts limits on the government, not us. The solution to the problem would have been for the government to realize that they are a walking, talking disaster and remove themselves altogether from the equation. BUT, the buffoons in the government stupidly believe that they are the end all and be all, so they cannot resist the temptation to jump in and make matters much, much worse.
