We'll pay the $900.

My wife called her father who IS a retired mechanic. He said he'd recently paid about $800 to have the radiator and hoses in his van replaced. That's in Sacramento, where everything isn't overpriced the way it is here.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I appreciate your thoughts. $900 is way better than two grand. And, yes, I know that Nemo could do it for about $175... *sigh*

I almost wish I lived in... where are you now, Nemo? Oregon? LOL. No. No, I don't.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

My wife took the van to a second mechanic (not the one I'd intended to take it to tomorrow.) This one says it needs a new radiator and hoses, but that the water pump and intake manifold gasket are okay. He's quoting $900.

That STILL strikes me as expensive, but I'm more comfortable with the diagnosis. It doesn't sound like someone who is trying to milk us for every possible type of failure.

What do you guys think? Should replacing a radiator involve $750 in labor?
