My wife took the van to a second mechanic (not the one I'd intended to take it to tomorrow.) This one says it needs a new radiator and hoses, but that the water pump and intake manifold gasket are okay. He's quoting $900.

That STILL strikes me as expensive, but I'm more comfortable with the diagnosis. It doesn't sound like someone who is trying to milk us for every possible type of failure.

What do you guys think? Should replacing a radiator involve $750 in labor?

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

No, that's being SMART. Cheap is when you get to repairing the one inch and sewing it back on.
