This is anothers theory. Amazing that the dow jumps around at almost a billion worth of stock so fast like it does. Thanks to algos and HFTing. That's all that sways the masrkets anymore.

Ill take a guess using intuition: the biggest company exxon has a market cap over 400B, the smallest is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 150B (a guess). Let's just say the average market cap is 300B*30stocks=900B. A 1 point move into a 14000 market is about .07%move. Take that times 900B and you get .064B or 64M dollar swing in mkt cap for every 1 point move

If some has a different theory please enlighten me.LOL I DUN KNOW........

Found an article, and this one paragraph says it all LOL

Who owns it

The Dow Jones industrial average is no longer run by Dow Jones, the media company that publishes The Wall Street Journal. (Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. bought Dow Jones in 2007.) The index is calculated and published by S&P Dow Jones Indices, a joint venture company that is majority-owned by the publishing giant McGraw-Hill. CME Group and Dow Jones hold smaller stakes.

Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.
