Running engines produce plenty of heat. I'd next consider a clogged air filter, particularly if there a lot of dust.

De,
It was running . . . then it got harder and harder
to keep running. I was having to hold the choke in
to keep it running. Got worse . . would not stay running.

I did change the air filter and the spark plug . . no help.

I think Mr. Monk is right . . . starving for fuel.

One question: Did the mower die while running? Or did you let it cool completely down for one or more nights?

If it died while running, then my "oil viscosity" theory is wrong. Running engines produce plenty of heat. I'd next consider a clogged air filter, particularly if there a lot of dust.
