New one to me, nemo. Haven't disassembled a steering wheel/column in over a decade. Have a 9x Ford Explorer with 'intermittent' airbag light - so this is of help to me. Thx.

Its called the clock spring, which regulates everything you said. Its a motion type of thing. If a wire breaks, nothing works and the air5bag light will come on, crazy chit,,,,,,,
