Agreed, but it's about as likely as government declaring, "Hey, we've decided that government should be about 10 percent as big and powerful as it is today."
Both government shrinkage and a return to gold will happen one day, but NOT voluntarily and not while anything in government continues to function.
In fact, I think it's safe to say that NO stable government in the world will return to the gold standard voluntarily. To do so would be to invite war with everyone else.
Think of it like this: Suppose Japan or England declared today that it was returning to a 100% gold-backed currency. Guess where I'd be moving ALL of my cash . . . tomorrow? It would crush the world's banking systems, and the rest of the world will not tolerate that.
