Oh, it is just scandalous.
How many part manufacturers apparently do not recognize
their own parts. I'll be looking up a part number . . .
the manufacturers name and the part number are on the part.
I go to their web site and 'search' for their part . . .
And get a message to the effect that they never heard of it.
Drives me nuts.

I hear you on the issues with old software.
I'd have been really annoyed if my old version of office didn't work. I had errors during the install (six in fact), but I told the installer to "Ignore" the errors and the installation continued.
It's Microsoft Office 2000 - including Word, Excel, Access, Frontpage, Outlook, etc, all from 17 years ago and it does everything I need except to read modern documents. Those, I have to convert. Thankfully, it seems to be working fine. I'll probably find something later that's glitchy, but so far so good.

I found it funny that Windows 10 claimed my Office software was from "an Unknown Publisher" and required my permission to do the install. Micosoft Windows 10 doesn't recognize Microsoft! ROTFLMAO....
