ribit,

Just as a precaution, does your computer have a login password on ALL accounts (especially the admin account?) If not, turn it on with a strong password (at least 8 characters long and consisting of at least each of digits, lowercase letters, uppercase letters, and special characters (*&$_%@^).

When hackers break into your computer, they generally log onto it. If there isn't a password to stop them, they get in and own your box just as if they're sitting in front of it.

You probably haven't been hacked. But if you have been, then your hunch about that light may be right.

...my router modem is a one piece thingy. I have disconnected it from power and all other cables and left it for fifteen or so minutes then plugged it back up and it goes right back to this pulsing thing. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it same thing. I have cursed it and would have sacrificed a goat before it if I thought that would help. I can unplug the computer from the router and it stops blinking. The tech guru at my isp (the same one who told me the alarm wasn't anything to worry about) said that the blinking only indicated that my computer was either uploading or downloading something. Well, it ain't supposed to be. I don't have any kind of backup to the great and eternally secure cloud but it sure looke like the puter is sending or receiving something. Aggravating is what it is. Maybe I will borrow a laptop from somebody and plug it into the router port and see if the blinking stops. If so, I will know that the computer is the problem.
