I've got a friend who built a house in Oklahoma, but by the time it was ready for him to move in, he didn't want it. He said the people were absolutely horrible. If you didn't go to their church (which must have been Southern Baptist since he said everyone went to the same place), they would "as soon kill you as give you the time of day." This was more than ten years ago, but that's the quote that stuck with me. He thought they were about the most unfriendly people he'd ever met and he opted to sell the house.
I've never lived there, but Oklahoma is one of several places in the country I've been told to avoid due to exceptionally nosy and judgemental people. (Iowa is another such place.)
Good luck if that's where you wind up. Or you could just embrace their religion and you won't need luck! I know how you like religion....
