I had a flu shot the year I moved to Virginia. I'm not sure what I was thinking. Most likely, I wasn't thinking. I just thought it was great that my job was paying for it.

I haven't had one since. And guess what? No flu! In fact, I'm not sure I know anyone who has had it.

The article is right, though, that the vaccine doesn't do much good. Those who develop it have to take a stab in the dark about the three flu strains that might go epidemic more than a year later - and the odds are against them being right.

If a particularly bad strain comes along, it almost by definition must be something against which the vaccine doesn't work. That's to say, if the vaccine DID work, the strain would never have gotten "REALLY bad."

Was the swine flu shot the Army made me take back in the late 1970's . . .
And I got sick as a dog from it.
