De

there is nothing as difficult as planning and prepping for a parent's funeral, or a spouse's or child's either.

I love the poetic verse.

It is a time of remembrance of one who loved you and raised you to be who you are. Reflections of how fortunate you were to be able to have those moments in this world.

I received my mother's ashes today from the body donation folks at the med center. I need to work with my dad and get an URN and then take them to the place where they are to be stored at their church.

Brought memories of mom flooding back......

It's a trying time. Try to remember to reflect on the good things and to smile and think about how lucky you were to have had him for your father...

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It's been a busy few days, what with all the church preparations, friend notifications, obits (one in Sacto, another in his home town), military arrangements (an honor guard, three shots and all that), etc. Getting everyone in the family to agree, even on little things, is difficult. My sister wants to go all out. My brother and I would rather keep it simple. Another brother is on a lengthy tour of Asia, so he doesn't get a vote.

My sister wins, I guess.

We're all happy with the headstone. Its bottom (after name, rank, military service, DOB-DOD) will have the first two lines of a favorite poem:

"A SPRIG OF IVY, ALL FOR THEE
HOLD IT CLOSE AND LOVINGLY..."

Everyone who's heard it loves it. One gentleman said it showed my father to be a scholar and a true romantic. That made us smile.

We aren't telling anyone that it's a poem my father authored. Yes, he was well read; perhaps a scholar but not so much of a romantic. Or that the rest of the verse reads:

"COUNT THE LEAVES, NOTE THERE ARE THREE."

There are several other verses. There's a reason we like it.
