Dear Micro,
Yeah, I liked Windows 2000 as well. Where I work we
have five 'console computers' which are used to control
the preset and metering of ink in to make newspapers.
The computers are old, but sweet. They give me
little problems.

That old SE of mine . . before I bought my first hard
drive, and after I upgraded it to four Megabytes, I'd
shove the floppy in the disk then go make breakfast
while it booted. When it finished it had set up and
loaded everything into a RAM disk. That was slick and
fast . . . (for an antique.) Now that I think about
it, it was amazing what such beasts did with a few
Meg's of RAM.

No, I have not managed to use a USB stick as a hard
drive . . but it would be a nice trick.

I do have an assortment of USB sticks with which I can
boot up the computer and 'Ghost' the hard drives. I
can ghost them to another drive, the USB, or over the
network.

Once I was going to buy Microsoft Office . . . I think
it was Office 2007. But, 'they' wanted to lease it to
me instead of my buying it. It also did not come with
the CD (or would it have needed to be a DVD?). The
Guru at work said 'Try Open Office'. So I did. The
only thing I miss with it is nothing like Microsoft
Access.

Microsoft Word does do a better job of copying text
into it than the Open Office version I'm using . . .
Word just looks better. Open Office puts it all
into some sort of blocks . . . and occasionally those
have problems. Nothing insurmountable . . . And then
it seems many sites do something strange to try to
keep me from pulling the text out.

Anyway, Have a good night.
Zim.

I loved windows 2000 pro Zim.

And the Pentium D processor on the upper end like the one described at 2.8Ghz speed was pretty good.

However, with that said, the speed of a processor must also be able to have a wide open highway for data to flow and that is The BUS speed and the speed of the RAM plus how much is there.

A real sure fire way to really notice instantaneous results from clicking on some data to appear right now or anything else is to use a Solid State hard drive, which is basically flash memory.
There are NO MOVING parts like a five disc hard disk to be searched. Amazing how fast a computer will boot up using a flash drive or a solid state disk, which are pretty close to the same thing.

Have you ever installed an operating system on a 128 GB memory stick and used it as your hard drive?

Pretty cool and fast.....

SO many neat things going on in the tech world.

I did not realize Office 10 was such a pain. Glad I do not use it... Thanks for the warning.

I use OPEN OFFICE or I use office 2007 depending on the machine.

WHat I do not want is windows 8 or 10 . I keep hoping Linux will come out with a distro as easy to use as windows, especially when it comes to installing a program you want. I like easy and repeatability.

Looks like M1 got his problem resolved. Am glad.

Time to call it a night.
I have a Physical tomorrow morning. First one in a long time and I need my annual Pneumonia shot, which I am very prone to get and susceptible to.

Good night all !!!
