That was running XP and it is slower than dirt because if one puts any amount of info or tries to multi task with that, you will experience delays and slowness.
For decent performance I always recommend 2 GB minimum for XP, 4 GB if you want it really work easily.
Remember that RAM also stores your software you are using and it must flow through the memory to the processor uninhibited. It is a highway if you will. The more lanes you have, the better the traffic (info, data) flows.
USUALLY older machines that migrated UP to XP did not have but single core processors and even the dual cored ones were pretty slow, especially due to the L2 cache.
On windows 7, which is at least FOUR TIMES LARGER than windows XP , requires even more RAM to keep things flowing freely..
This is why MOST machines sold with windows 7 have at least 4 GB of RAM, and many have 8 GB.
IN order to do so, they MUST BE 64 bit operating systems. 32 bit systems do not recognize or use anything over 3.5 GB of RAM.
At todays memory prices Zim, you really should upgrade the memory if your motherboard will take more. You are bare bones on memory my man.
When I click SOMETHING, I want that something to appear right now, in an instant, and be able to have five or six other windows open at same time with no performance issues.
You should have a minimum of four GB of newer memory to have really decent performance.
