by Breitbart News
CHELSEA, Manhattan — The FDNY says 25 civilians were injured in an outdoor explosion in Chelsea Saturday night.
The explosion happened in a garbage can around 8:30 p.m. at 135 23rd St. between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
The FDNY says none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening at this time.
The victims were taken to area hospitals.
The FDNY is on the scene with the NYPD Counterterrorism Unit.
The explosion comes after a pipe bomb exploded in Seaside Park, New Jersey near the Semper Fi 5K Charity Run Route. The device was placed in a garbage can.
Photos posted to social media showed hundreds of people standing in the streets trying to figure out where the explosion came from.
People are urged to avoid the area as police search for other explosive devices.
The NYPD has stopped all southbound traffic on Seventh Avenue at 34th Street.
The explosion has impacted subway service. According to the MTA's website, there is no service on the No. 1 and 2 trains between 34th Street Penn Station and Chambers Street in both directions.
Commuters should allow for additional travel time and seek alternate routes.
