They can try. But I've gotten off of the only medicine I was taking.
I was on Lipitor for quite a few years. This year, my left arm began bothering me for no apparent reason. Statins are known to cause muscle-related problems, and although my pain felt more like a tendon, I decided that getting off of Lipitor was worth a try.
There's no telling if I was right about that, but my arm doesn't hurt anymore.
I expect my bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels are skyrocketing, but I've been reading a lot of articles that call into question the benefits of lowering supposedly bad cholesterol. It seems that what matters is not so much that you have high cholesterol levels but that you are prone to plaque buildup. There IS a test for that, but doctors don't usually give it.
Bad cholesterol levels don't matter if the cholesterol doesn't "stick," and in most people it doesn't.
I'll be changing my diet dramatically in about two years, so I'm not too worried about a heart attack. Gardening isn't just good exercise; it also produces good food. If I eat as many veggies as I think I will, neither my weight nor my cholesterol levels will be issues anymore.
