I feel for you. That's a HUGE problem, but you're the only one who can do anything about it.
I have two stories.
First, a German friend of my wife's cut himself while shaving a few years back. I think he was on blood thinners. They found him dead after a few days. There was blood throughout the house. It was a horrible mess. He clearly took a long time to die.
That's the kind of thing that can happen to any of us when we're alone, but the odds skyrocket for those who are ALWAYS alone. There are a million and one serious afflictions that can take down the best of us. If no one is there to notice and call for an ambulance, then that's all she wrote for our time on this mortal coil.
Hopefully that won't be your fate, but we all know that it happens.
Second, my son is heading off to college next year. Except for his summer breaks, we may not see much of him anymore. After all, we'll be in a very rural area, and unless we are very fortunate and he picks a specialty like veterinary medicine or journalism (neither of which is an interest), he's not likely to find a job nearby.
My wife and I will have each other, so we won't be ALONE alone, but the focus of our last 17 years will be gone and it's going to be hard.
So I truly feel for you. Have you considered renting out your Mom's place to someone you think might be a good companion? Romance isn't necessary. You should just have SOMEONE around to keep you from going totally bat-sh*t crazy. Er. Crazier.
