A Dallas man credits a DART officer with saving his life during Thursday night's fatal ambush on police in downtown Dallas.

Raphael Taylor (a person of color) said he was downtown when the shooting started, and that Dallas Area Rapid Transit police Officer Misty McBride was wounded while protecting him.

"The officer, the lady officer seen the gunfire, tried to run over and help us and ended up being shot," Taylor told KXAS-TV (NBC5).

McBride's father, Richard, told KTVT-TV (Channel 11) that his daughter crawled toward a car after being shot, and officers were able to take her to the hospital.

She was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to her stomach and shoulder. She was released from Baylor University Medical Center on Saturday night.

McBride, 39, of Rowlett, has been a DART officer for six years and previously worked at the Dallas County Jail.

On Sunday, Taylor returned to the scene of the attack and reflected on McBride's heroism.

"She saved my life," he told NBC5. "I want to tell her, 'Thank you. And I hope that you get better. I hope you're well. And I hope that God [is] with you.'"
