Actually,
I think the parents should be armed with small rusty
knives . . . so the perps death takes a LONG painful
time.

I like that scenario.....

One of the tools the parents would have in their possession would be very large TIN SNIPS, LARGE BOLT CUTTER,, and a couple of saws. MAybe even a SAWZALL.

Then we can provide several rounds of small calibre ammo along with the hand guns.

Just my way of thinking about what justice would really look like....
