You got that right.
A few months ago, a friend of my son posted on Facebook, "Hey, everybody. I've been thinking about this a lot and, guess what? I'm gay!"
That's all well and good. The kid "came out." What shocked me is that he received about 50 responses, half of which were "CONGRATULATIONS!!"
Uh... congratulations? No. In my book, congratulations are for things great and wonderful, not a person's admission that he's going to embrace an extremely hazardous and still widely frowned upon lifestyle.
Maybe that's not clear, so I'll have one more go at it. HEY EVERYBODY, I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND DECIDED THAT I'M INTO BEING WHIPPED AND PEED ON!!!
Are any of you fighting a desire to congratulate me? No?
Same thing.
