Probably true under any realistic scenario. War, Pestilence, Famine, Pollution, Plague. SOMETHING is going to knock us for a loop in the next hundred years.
We really need to get off the planet. I'd say that humanity is on borrowed time UNTIL it becomes self-sufficient in the asteroid belt or OORT cloud. At that point, its survival is almost guaranteed. Even an alien civilization would have a tough time eradicating us if we were spread out to the OORT cloud.
