Hmmmm.
Personally, I believe that the proper use of 'military violence',
properly applied, can reduce the need and or duration of War.

One example, I keep reading where if France and England had
attacked Hitler early on, WWII might not have happened.

More recently, I keep thinking that saddat (Syria) used chemical
weapons on Syrians before ISIL became a big thing. If Obonzo had
pounded saddat into the dirt immediately after that . . .
Would ISIL have grown the way it did? At the least if Obonzo had brought
the Syrian civil war to a quick conclusion, there would not be
the millions of Syrian refugees we have today.

I can see WWIII coming . . . China claiming the entire
South China Sea . . and Russia trying to rebuild their
empire. I can see both of them threatening nuclear
annihilation if we don't let them have their ways . . .

Paradoxically, the end result of allowing China and
Russia to engage in 'empire building' will be the end
of the world as we know it.

re: "How on earth can veterans of the armed services ever align themselves with a socialist despot and throw away the very Constitution that swore to uphold and defend?? I cannot understand this at all. Ribs, DG, do you have any clues???"

Can we agree that NONE of the three major candidates are supporters of the Constitution? If we do, then your question seems a bit biased against Sanders since you pulled the 'Constitution card' against him when Trump and Clinton are equally guilty. IMO, the reason military types can support Sanders is because he's the only candidate who seems to give a rats ass about them. He isn't clearly bent on further expanding the U.S.'s role as the world's Emissary Of War, and SOME of soldiers agree with that.

It's as simple as that. Frivolous war can't be beat when it comes to putting on an awesome fireworks display. And it's great fun for armchair quarterbacks who don't actually do any of the fighting or dying or cleaning up. I suspect, though, that many of our soldiers would just as soon NOT have someone shooting at them. Am I wrong?

Some of us believe that war should be waged when necessary. It should be a last resort. We should commit to it when our vital national interests including our safety is jeopardized. Sanders is the only candidate who seems to care about that.

I disagree with Sanders on economic issues. But he voted against the Iraq war which, clearly, was the right move. (Okay, he got lucky since it turned out that the information about the threat Saddam Hussein represented was grossly overstated.) He voted against the first gulf war, too. Okay, so he's just a dove? Well, no. He voted for use of the military in Kosovo. And he voted for its use against al-Qaeda.

Sanders positions with regard to the military are as follows (taken from the 'feelthebeern.org' website):

The Role of the United States Military: Given its staggering human and monetary costs, war should be a last resort. Exhaust all other options first, but keep a robust military at the ready.

Supporting Military Members and Families: American military personnel and families face unique challenges. Expand programs that support these Americans.

Supporting Veterans: If you’re going to send American troops to war, you absolutely must take care of them when they return. Fix the VA health care system and expand educational benefits.

Bernie believes that while we do need a strong national defense infrastructure, we need to focus more heavily on diplomatic alternatives to war. For most of the past decade, the United States has been engaged in two separate military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bernie is concerned about the human and monetary costs of these wars, especially as the country faces grave challenges on the home front.

Nonetheless, Bernie believes that military intervention should be a last resort, not a first resort, and that a bloated defense budget represents an improper prioritization of defense issues at a time when the country is plagued by pressing domestic challenges.

Do you see anything there that you disagree with? Also, unlike what Trump and Clinton have to say, Sanders statements are actually BELIEVABLE. He doesn't have the history of misstatements, changed positions and lies that Clinton and Trump have. That's a big deal to some people.

If foreign policy were the only issue, I would vote for Sanders before Trump or Clinton.
