...I was there in 65 and it was a far easier time. Hadn't blossomed into a full blown shit storm yet. Two guys in our company were killed. An officer and a radio operator on patrol with arvns. None of the arvn's were hurt (or even dirty). We were pretty sure the arvns did it because they didn't want to go on patrol.

things did not change much just a few years later in 1968. Still had lovely warm summertime and the humidity was so thick you could shower in it..

I always thought the drill instructor's jobs were to see how close to the edge of death's doorstep they could push you without actually causing it.

Like you, we didn't die there. Many died a few months after that. I still see their faces... Sad
