I suspect paying off the national debt requires a
'double barreled' approach.

As Micro said, eliminating useless federal agencies
more dedicated to stealing and misappropriating funds
is one barrel. (And I would eliminate welfare at the
federal level as well.)

The other barrel is a REAL genuine revival of the
American economy. Lots of relatively cheap power
enabling the U.S. to steal our manufacturing jobs
back from China. Employing LOTS more folks in good
middle class jobs - paying a lot more in taxes even
at lower tax rates.

I was with you right up until the end. But the quoted sentence above suggests that you might not know what's involved.

Unless your plan includes defaulting on Social Security and Medicare obligations...

If you do that, then it might be possible to repay the debt in 8 years. But you'd kill a lot of people in the process. Would you have the stomach for that?

The only other way I think you could actually repay what we owe would be to monetize the debt. That is, to print enough money to pay it all off. I'm sure you can guess what the side effects of that would be.

Or will be, since that's what the powers that be are striving for today. Monetization of debt is the big Keynesian plan. It involves screwing over a huge number of people, but that's okay to the leftists because they think that the victims can afford it.
