Many in the younger generation are terribly naive.
My son has a close friend who lives in England. She recently vacationed in Denmark, then posted the rave review shown below about the place. Some of her friends chimed in about it too - all agreeing with the meme's premise that the rest of the world should be like Denmark. Naturally, I had to dig a little deeper to see if it was really true. It's not, and I instead found the other side of the story.
Denmark:
Average income of just $24,000 - which tells us right there that the "$25 Minimum Wage" is a lie. ($25 minimum with a 35 hour work week means an annual income of more than $45,000.) What Denmark has is fully unionized employment, with some unions have set minimum wages of $25/hr for highly educated professionals, and other unions having set an opening pay that is much lower.
After paying the crushing, world's highest 65 percent income tax, the average Dane has to survive on $10,000/year.
The Danish sales tax is 25 percent.
Unless what they're buying is an automobile. The car tax is 250 percent.
There are huge taxes on houses too. A 100 year old apartment runs $600,000.
The Health Insurance is free, but it also has such long lines that people routinely die awaiting treatment. If you have money, you buy separate Health Insurance.
The college really is a bargain for students. Unfortunately, Denmark is such a rathole that it can't seem to keep its graduates in the country. They graduate, then leave in droves.
Does the younger generation think about things like this? No. They see a country that brags about its free Healthcare and college, then assume that life there must be bliss.
