While I agree with you that what Nevada has done is idiotic,
and possibly even criminal. I see several problems with solar.
Problem one. Solar panels do not make power at night.
Meaning that 'We' must have a secondary source of energy - doubling the overall cost.
Problem two. Solar takes a LOT of space. Where one plants solar
panels for power, one can not grow food crops or trees to
suck some of that carbon from the air.
Problem three. While there is enough room in Nevada to put the
panels to power New York City . . . one can not get the watts
from Nevada to New York City.
With all that said, I think in Nevada's case they need to get
the solar on line. By day the utilities need to buy the watts
at below production costs, and throttle back electrical
production from Hoover Dam. Then, at night open the valves to
make the watts all night. (Effectively storing the
surplus solar watts in the water behind the dam.)
I see jacking up the tax on the solar watts as an attempt by
the thieves in Nevada to steal all the money they think they
can get away with. To the detriment of the environment 'they'
claim to be in favor of.
