micro,

re: "The roof must be rated higher than the snow load.:

You seem to know a lot about this. Is it something you've read about or done?

The salesman said he was selecting a roof rated at 90 psf (which I'm guessing means 90 pounds per square foot.) That strikes me as pretty strong but I am truly a fish out of water here. I hope I'm right about it.

He also suggested I check with someone at the "building department" to see what they recommend.

He called me at work today and we discussed the project further. At one point I was suggesting he add another 20 feet to the garage and put two 15-foot lean-tos on the sides. But the price began rapidly increasing which I didn't like so I retreated to 60x80 and ONE lean-to. He was going to send me a revised quote but I haven't checked my e-mail yet to see if it's there.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

De

that door is called a walk in door and commonly are referred to as a 3 x 7h .

Question: are you going to be selling anything
at the drive thru???? lol!!!

Good plans. And yes, the weight of snow is more evenly distributed on a roof that has a centered ridgeline and a "gabled" look. The pitch of the roof will matter as well and someone at the building place should have the specs of the requirements for the weight of snow higher than that accumulation on the roof, known as snow load. The roof must be rated higher than the snow load.
