Of course, that's not the whole story. Kids were assigned to write “There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.” in Arabic. Had it been virtually anything that wasn't a pretty transparent indoctrination of American children into Islam, there would have been no problem.

Ah... I had no idea about that, I just thought the post was funny...

I thought that was probably the case But I'll bet you that Dan Wilbur knows. People with agendas take the part of reality that suits their agenda and that's what they pass on. It's the reason Americans are so overwhelmingly frustrated with their politicians and journalists. Everyone here needs to be on their toes when they read politically-charged stories. Often, as is the case with this story, they're written to mislead.

I'm from Virginia.....we don't do that in class we learn about Islam but historically not writing "there is no god but Allah." Also Allah means God and it is the same god from the Bible.

I too am from Virginia, and I'm fine with learning about all religions. Islam would be no different except that it is not just a religion - it is also a political system (Shariah law) that is incompatible with Western culture. Therefore, the issue of Islam *always* has to be handled with kid gloves by westerners - which causes many to claim it isn't receiving the separation of church and state that all religions deserve. But, again, it ISN'T only a religion.

Ok we kinda haven't been handling it with kid gloves. We've been bombing Muslim countries for over a decade now and with the Shariah laws they aren't in our governments because of the separation of church and state. Honestly you have more zealot Christians trying to put their religious laws in effect in America than zealot Muslims.

True enough. Perhaps a good way to put it is that we aren't at war with the Islam religion; we're at war with several of the Islam governments. However, Shariah Law is adhered to by every Muslim. (Disavowing it would be akin to Christians disavowing the ten commandments.) This is why Islam creates a perplexing problem for the western world. A key component of it that Muslims likely will not drop is incompatible with our way of life. (Hmm. Maybe they should be required to disavow it in order to live here. This is what we required of Mormons, after all.)

No you don't have to disavow Mormonism if you're a Mormon continue to be violating their First Amendment of freedom of religion. Same with Islam you just can't practice the bat shit crazy parts. Plus most Muslims aren't trying to make Sharia law the law in the west, in fact most don't really practice it because it's impractical in modern society most worried that they're going to make in time for their TV show.

Mormons were required to disavow polygamy. For some Mormons, it was deeply rooted in their religious belief. But it was incompatible with American culture and Mormons were forced to make the choice of giving it up or not being Americans.

Like how people "disavowed" stoning infidels which is also in Christian laws

Honestly most Mormons don't give a flying fuck and see themselves still fallowing the rules of Mormonism

Also Christianity has laws saying you can practice polygamy and that you must in certain situations

True enough. Also incompatible with western culture and given up by Christians. Muslims should be required to do the same with the parts of their belief that are problematic to western countries.

Most people don't follow Bronze Age or late middle-aged text ( which both the Bible and the Quran are) and don't want to follow them they like their modern conveniences which a lot them go against their laws

We agree, but you might want to research the "most" part of your statement to see what the percentages actually are. The numbers could surprise you.

Just let them practice their religion within the context of the law let people learn about different religions in school in a non bias way so we don't have people spout nonsense that will be believed beacuse they don't know any better

"Same with Islam you just can't practice the bat shit crazy parts." ha ha. I like that. If westerners would put those parts in writing and require EVERYONE (doesn't really matter if they're Islamic or not, does it?) to swear that they won't practice them, I think the result would be interesting. It *might* even solve the problem. (I don't think so, but it might.)

No problem my main reason for not wanting to make a law that prohibits people first ammendment rights is my fear of a 1984 society

Ah, I agree. But the precedent for banning political membership was established in 1954's Communist Control Act. So, the question is, "Is Islam just a religion or also a political system?"

It's a religion in of itself and banning it will just lead to more people using that as an excuse to ban poltical groups they don't like honestly I don't like banning political parties even when I disagree with them

Small government is an answer to most of our problems, so I can't say I disagree about disliking banning political groups. But the courts have already decided the matter. As for Islam being a religion in and of itself, that's where we disagree. It is BOTH a religion and a political system. And, as I said, Muslims are forbidden from disavowing Shariah law. Its very definition (I'm paraphrasing) is 'the legal system to which Muslims adhere,' after all.

Honestly federalism iis better than small government it splits up the responsible between big and small

Another point on which we don't agree. A powerful central government is essential to the 1984 society you earlier referenced, after all. I prefer freedom over domination.
