I have finished reading this book.
Unfortunately, it gives no hints as to what "I" might do to survive.
It finished with a plea for a return to the gold standard. But
I don't believe that is such a great idea.
To explain . . .
First, the liverals like to claim that if nobody had any guns,
we would not have a gun violence problem. I think most of
the folks in here realize, that if none of the law abiding
citizenry had weapons . . . We would all be at the mercy of thugs
with baseball bats.
Late in the book it explains how a gold standard is like a set of
'gold manacles' curbing the ability of profligate politicians to
spend money we ain't got. True enough.
The book also says if everybody was on the gold standard, it would
be difficult to impossible for anyone to raise an army and buy
the weapons for global domination. Also true enough.
My postulate: Assume that after WWII everybody went on the gold
standard. Russia and the U.S. in particular. Now, American capitalism
is superior to communism and we would grow stronger.
Russia, being paranoid, would be worried that 'We' might decide to pre-emptively kill them.
What might keep Russia from quietly going off the gold standard,
running the printing presses to pay for buying all the gnarly weapons
and building the armies for global domination, then nuking U.S. and
conquering all of Europe?
I think Decomposed has the right idea - buy land, weapons, and
become self sufficient such that he and his can live off the grid.
Zim.
