The final satellite ping of Malaysian Flight #370, 7.5 hours after the flight left Kuala Lumpur, is somewhere on two red lines shown below. That wide swath is where the plane is last known to have been. I think it was probably on the ground by then. There was no ping the following hour, so the plane either crashed in that next hour, which I think is highly unlikely, or somebody on the ground disabled the engine-mounted communications device..
The northerly red line is the line of interest since the southerly line is primarily over the ocean. It primarily spans China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, but I find it unlikely that the plane is in well-policed China.
The plane most likely put down in Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan. Both are bad news, but Kazakhstan is in particular since it's a good place to acquire material from which dirty bombs could easily be made.
From Kazakhstan, Hawaii is no longer the obvious target. The plane can reach most of the world with its 7,750 nautical mile range.
From Aktau Kazakstan to:
- London 2,091 nautical miles (The rest of Europe is even closer.)
- Vatican City 1,699 nautical miles.
- Honolulu 6,603 nautical miles
- New York City 4,954 nautical miles
- Washington D.C. 5,123 nautical miles
Why should the terrorists stop at just one? With its range, this plane might be able to drop dirty bombs on both NYC and Washington D.C. Or numerous cities in Europe. This is more than a little disturbing.
If I had originated this plot, I would have planned on executing it soon. Before the western world catches on to the possibilities and adapts its defenses. I wouldn't be too surprised if Flight 370 makes its next, even deadlier appearance within two or three weeks.
