We've all heard how women earn just 77¢ for every dollar men make. We all know this because it's been repeated endlessly for going on two decades. Isn't it strange how the number never changes?
President Maobama most recently repeated the claim in his State of the Union speech.
For starters, I want to point out that it's wrong. According to the Department of Labor & Statistics, the number should be 88¢.
Second, it's still wrong. The number is derived by adding up all the money earned by women and dividing that by the number of working women, then doing the same with men. That doesn't mean that women earn less than men for doing the same job! It means that the jobs women do pay less than the jobs men do. As anyone with even half a brain knows, the jobs women do are sometimes very different from the jobs that men do.
Here's the most interesting piece of information: When you compare single women without children to single men without children doing the same work, do you know what you find? Women earn substatially MORE than men. Such women earn $1.08 for every dollar men make.
But will you hear this from the Democratic assholes? No.
Because they're liars.
And, of course, because they're assholes.
