... it's time to clear the air.
First, we all live in glass houses ... whether we are willing to openly admit it or not ... so it behooves us all to be careful how we fling rocks.
Some of us ... yes, I said "us" because I definitely include myself in this group ... can tend towards the use of language that is "spicier" than necessary. If we gave it a little more effort, we could probably say the same thing in a more nuanced, less vulgarity-laced manner.
HOWEVER, words referencing anatomical parts of the human body or sexual acts are NOT the only vulgarities that regularly appear on these boards ... and to harp upon one form while studiously ignoring another is simply rank hypocrisy. Enter the sound of breaking glass. On other boards, whether it be comments of overt racism (against blacks, Jews, WASPs, etc.), coded but transparently obvious vulgarities (like the term "teabagger"), or even false charges of "racism" leveled at other posters simply because they hold a different opinion, the use of these vulgarities are just as, if not more so, rampant. And just because one launches such vulgar attacks in a superficially "sweet" or "folksy" manner without the overt use of common swear words does not make those comments ANY less vulgar than those that contain the F-word, the C-word, or any other swear word that causes your social sensibilities to quiver.
Maybe this indicates that I am too crude or desensitized, but personally, the derogatory name-calling (whether overt or camouflaged) is of little concern to me. It's a rough-and-tumble world, and I need to take as well as I give it out ... and vice versa. I fully realize it is far better to keep our arguments as refined as possible, but way too many people proudly wear their personal sensibilities on their sleeves, just so they can be "offended" and cowardly play the supposed "victim." You want to know what is truly OFFENSIVE in our society? It is the ignorant support given by some American citizens for an ever-larger, tyrannical government that habitually degrades every American's right to be free to choose their own course in life. Such meddlesome busybodies wrongly believe they are morally superior and their "good" intentions somehow override the actual evil that they do. However, if these malignant statists were to personally come to my house to do to me and my family what they desire the government to do on their behalf, the local grand jury would pin a medal on my chest for gunning them down.
