OhDearGodInHeaven - since when do we announce the NAMES of our special forces? 'k
The identity of a Navy SEAL who died in a hostage rescue mission over the weekend has been released. Officials confirm to Fox News he was Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque, 28, from Pennsylvania.
He was killed during a mission in Afghanistan to rescue Dr. Dilip Joseph, an American doctor who was abducted with two colleagues. The Taliban kidnapped them last week, but released the two colleagues. Dr. Joseph was held in the mountains near the border of Pakistan.
The Navy SEAL Team Six began the rescue mission when it became clear the doctor was in imminent danger of death or injury.
The 28-year-old SEAL member was not a part of the team that killed Usama bin Laden. Checque died on Sunday of wounds he received during the rescue mission.
