Which part is shocking and infuriating ?
That the government isn't helping these people ?
Or that the people are so dependent on government that they appear to be able to do nothing for themselves ?
cut off from access to necessities they are dependent on government aid to provide for their basic needs until the city has removed enough of the damage for residents to be able to leave.
Hmmmm .... there is a LOT in that statement about the nanny state mentality.
No - I am NOT making light of what happened ... but those buildings ARE standing - well above water line - which at least provides shelter from the elements (cold - blankets work well).
Where are the stories, like the corner of Due's World where he helped his neighbors with another basic - clean water ?
Where are the stories of people getting out and WORKING TO HELP CLEAN UP THE CRAP around their own houses and neighbors ?
Government for everything ?
Is our society REALLY that dependent on government, and that whiny ?
Who do we go to for help ? What a far, far cry from 'Ask not ...' -and- from the question people used to ask 'Can I help you do that -and- Are you ready to start working ?'
For answer - review Due's previous post answering the previous rhetorical question - the answer is the same, although the question appears to be different.
As a partial answer - When Houston flooded so badly (previous post) - I got out with my old 66 Plymouth Fury - a veritable tank - with my handy tow strap. Now, that car could go through 3' feet of water without a hiccup. Went down to an underpass, a low spot, where several people were flooded out - or just couldn't get through. Tie the strap on - pull 'em out - pretty easy stuff (in my late 20's to early 30's). No pay. Surprised a lot of folk.
Today - I would probably get a ticket or be arrested by the police for doing the same thing. Think that about sums it up.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good ...
