Nice to have the power back, eh ? In Houston, when that hurricane blew thru in 83? ... power was out for about 10 days. Most of the power lines there are UNDERGROUND - which never made much sense to me - seeing as how flooding is ALWAYS an issue in Houston.
The hurricane got a couple of my pine trees - which had already been 'topped' off by a previous tornado that skipped about 20-30' over my house. Sounded like a freight train coming thru ... according to neighbors.
Had to take their word for it, 'cuz I slept through the entire thing. LOL
A 'low wind speed' tropical storm that came through Houston caused the worst flooding there - more damage than the hurricane. Dumped 22-24' inches of rain in less than 8 hours. Came within 1' of the base of my slab - and I was on a 'slight' hill (about 10' above the mean-street-level. Takes a LOT of water to flood extremely flat areas - a WHOLE lot. That storm did it, though.
Kinda hard to believe:
Those were the daze! Believe it or not, it is still illegal to pump your own gas in 'Jersey.
Had no idea that there was anyplace in the country still like that. Talk about 'stuck in the fifties' !!
Hyup - I remember 'white gas' also - which technically had a nickle additive in it. Burned well in coleman stoves and lanterns. Unleaded burned too hot for them back then.
Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) is NOT good as an additive - is very reactive with a whole host of metals - unlike 'octane' (ie. the eight-carbon hydrocarbon known as 'gasoline' ... or one of the heavier products in 'condensate' production.) That reactivity is what plays havoc on many engines. Government in concert with big business again - obsoleting and destroying older equipment - so that it has to be replaced with 'new' stuff. Just like 'digital tv'.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good ...
