Monkey, ya see, I can't accept that in my own life. An entity I have to fear is not one I will worship/love. That's sick, imo. If that means I go to hell, if there is one, so be it.

I don't think "fear is the only restraint on man's intrinsic evil nature." I don't, for example, run out and kill somebody because I fear God's going to send me to a hot place for eternity. I don't kill someone because it's the right thing to do. It's immoral, unethical, whatever you want to call it.

Of course I agree a segment of the population falls into the category you describe....

FEAR of God is a GOOD thing, Linda.

Fear includes, but is not limited to awe, respect, leg trembling actual fear.

God IS to be FEARED, and loved.

That FEAR is the ONLY restraint on man's intrinsic evil nature.

That is scriptural - both in Christianity and Judaism.

Your quotation is MUCH more acceptable when it is 'the love of Christ' (which includes the HEALTHY fear of G_d) ... verses FEAR the evil of men - not 'fear of God'.
